EMDRIA Certified Therapist™
EMDRIA Consultant in Training™
Welcome
It is sometimes hard to know where to start or what to ask. I am ready to meet people who want to change but may be confused by the process and I enjoy helping people figure out what they want and how to get there. The therapeutic relationship is important to me, and I approach therapy with compassion, respect, and curiosity for each person. I believe in collaborating with clients to help them better understand their patterns and enhance support that will create meaningful change in their own lives. I am here to help you sort out the things that matter most to you – whether that means tackling the stresses of the day to day or working on recovering from deeper wounds.
Services
Many of the people I treat grew up in extremely painful life circumstances and are now struggling emotionally and with their relationships. I provide individual therapy for people struggling with anxiety, depression, recent traumatic events, complex developmental traumas, and dissociative disorders. I also provide services for people who have experienced single incident traumas and individuals who are struggling with general life transitions.
My Approach
My approach is attachment oriented, humanistic, and focused on my client's search for meaning. I utilize a psychodynamic lens. I also like to use humor in session when appropriate.
I teach clients coping skills to help them manage their distress and employ techniques from DBT (dialectical behavior therapy) and CBT (cognitive behavior therapy) to help with mood regulation. I am certified in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) which is a method for processing trauma and I also have advanced training in trauma informed stabilization (a method for treating complex trauma and dissociation) as well as ego state therapy, and ERP (exposure response prevention) which is an evidence-based treatment for treating OCD.
I adhere to the social work discipline’s historical roots for guidance on justice and social responsibility. I aim to create an affirming, inclusive, justice-oriented space in my therapy practice and to support my client’s healing through an anti-oppressive anti-racist lens. I try to recognize when I can do better and I always welcome feedback.
About
I have been practicing for nearly two decades and I love helping people become their most authentic selves. I am happy to work with people who feel really stuck or who feel like they have not been helped by therapy in the past. Prior to private practice, I worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings, and I have experience working with individuals across the lifespan, beginning as young as age five. Because of my experience in these various treatment settings, I am able to effectively diagnose and treat a range of mood and thought disorders as well as substance use and personality disorders.
Alongside my private practice, I am co-owner and co-clinical director of Live Oak Collective, a statewide telehealth practice that focuses on quality mental health care for all Texans. In addition to my master’s degree from UT Austin, I hold a bachelor’s degree from Connecticut College in Cultural Anthropology. I am licensed to practice clinical social work in both Texas and New York and have been a board approved supervisor for over fourteen years. In my free time, you will likely catch me amassing vintage treasures at various thrift stores around town, spending time with my family, or caving to my rescue dog Piggy’s every whim.
